By popular demand, here is the recipe for the ginger cookies often served at Decatur singings. These are the only cookies on this website.
1 cup sugar
Mix shortening and sugar, mix in molasses and egg. Sift together the dry ingredients and add to the wet ingredients. Mix thoroughly. Take by the spoonful and roll in hand to make a ball, roll in granulated sugar. Put on cookie sheet and press down with the bottom of a water glass. Bake in moderate (350°) oven 10 to 12 minutes.
Makes about 3 dozen.
This recipe came from my (Debora's) grandmother, but I've seen the same recipe published elsewhere.
